Frankie Boy Oriental arborvitae on a standard

Thjua orientalis 'Frankie Boy ' on a standard

Frankie boy is an unusual form of oriental arborvitae in that the thread-like foliage is basically upright rather than droopy which is typical of most thread-leaf cypresses. In addition, Frankie boy, has a pleasing limey yellow color. It is slow growing and I ‘ve heard it suggested that the thin ropey strands be pruned a bit in April to make the overall plant more full. In this interesting application, the plant is grafted on a standard – probably the oriental arborviate Blue Cone.
