Cryptomeria japonica 'Cristata'

Cryptomeria japonica 'Cristata'

Cryptomeria japonica ‘Cristata’ is a most unusual form of the Japanese cedar. This is a medium growing tree reaching 10 ft in as many years so it requires a moderate space to look its best. The curious cockscombs are what make this tree so interesting. From a distance, these abnormal growths look dark green and dot the tree in some abundance. Examined up close, most everyone is fascinated by the shapes. Small branches can be used creatively in indoor arrangements for the holidays or most anytime. Like most Cryptomerias, ‘Cristata’ is tolerant of light shade as long as it gets some sun during the summer months. Cryptomerias have a good root system and should establish themselves easily with proper planting technique.
