Cupressus macrocarpa ‘Fine Gold’

June 24, 2009

The bright yellow foliage has a citrus fragrance when bruised. This relatively uncommon cultivar of the Monterey cypress has performed well in Raleigh NC.  In youth, the tree is tall and narrow. It is fast in growth reaching 20 ft. in 8 years.  We have found ball and burlap ( field grown) trees difficult to establish. It is better to buy young container grown trees. Propagation is during the winter with hormone, bottom heat and mist.  The soft texture along with cheerful color make this ornamental one to search for.
